I am attending SWG for the second time as a coach of artistic swimming. I previously attended the 2018 winter games. I have four daughters who are all in the sport and three of them are lucky enough to attend these games as athletes this season. I wasn’t fortunate to attend games as a swimmer so it’s pretty cool to attend as a coach. When I attended SWG in 2018 my fondest memory was the camaraderie of the participants in the districts. The athletes made some new friendships with swimmers from other clubs.
The person I look up to in the sport of artistic swimming would be my colleague Janelle Dembicki. She was my coach when I was a swimmer and she inspired me to become a coach. I am still learning from her today! She has a vast knowledge of our sport and I would love to be half the coach she is one day.
One thing I will tell my athletes attending these games will be to enjoy every moment of it (stay off your phones when you get some downtime and just soak in the experience). This opportunity doesn’t happen for everyone!
My second favorite sport at SWG would be hockey. It’s Canada’s unofficial sport you know. It’s a great game. My favorite vacation spot would be Hawaii. I’ve been there once at would love to go back! If I had to pick one Disney character to be I would be Sleeping Beauty. Not because of my connection with nature and animals but because I like to sleep in when I get a chance!!
