Bronze Medal for Saskatchewan 12 & Under Duet at Synchronized Swimming Espoir Nationals in Surrey, B.C

June 3, 2018 – Over 350 Canadian athletes, coaches and officials converged on Surrey, BC, on May 29 to June 3 to take part in this year’s Canadian Espoir Artistic (Synchronized) Swimming Championships. Held at the Surrey Sport and Leisure Centre, the 5-day competition featuring figures, solo, duet and team events in the 12 & Under and 13-15 age groups.

Saskatchewan High Performance Athletes Bailey Hargreaves, Anna Dolgova, Joley Friesen and Sienna Kuchuran from the Saskatoon Aqualenes and Cadence Chernoff, Aurora Chernoff and Bronte Cawkwell from Regina Synchro represented Saskatchewan at the Espoir National Championships. Elise Marcotte, Synchro Saskatchewan’s High-Performance Consultant and two-time Olympian was thrilled with the athlete’s personal best performances and progression, stating “These young women are turning into superb athletes. These performances are results of our planning leading up to the 2019 Canada Games.”

 

High lite of this event was the bronze medal awarded to Bronte Cawkwell and Aurora Chernoff of Regina Synchro in the 12 and under Duet Event.  

 

Joley Friesen and Sienna Kuchuran placed 11th in 12 & Under Duet Championship.

 

Bronte Cawkwell placed 5th and Aurora Chernoff 8th in the 12 & Under Solo Championship.

 

In the 12 & Under Figure Event, Bronte Cawkwell placed 8th, Aurora Chernoff 26th, Joley Friesen 55th and Sienna Kuchuran 58th. Bronte Cawkwell also place 6th in the 200 IM time trial event.

 

Athletes must place in the top twelve in 13-15 preliminary events to advance to Finals. One Saskatchewan athlete qualified for the 13-15 Solo Final Event and one Saskatchewan duet qualified for the 13-15 Duet Finals.

 

Bailey Hargreaves advanced to the 13-15 Solo even placing 7th. Anna Dolgova placed 13th and Cadence Chernoff 19th in 13-15 Solo Prelims.

Saskatchewan athletes Anna Dolgova and Bailey Hargreaves advanced to the 13-15 Duet Final placing 8th.

 

In the 13-15 Figure Event Bailey Hargreaves placed 6th and Anna Dolgova 14th which qualified them for phase 2 National Team Trials, where they advanced to phase 3 and are awaiting 13-15 National Team results. Cadence Chernoff placed 52nd in figures.
